Leadership Training

There are two awards that are offered by the RFL to help develop and support young volunteers in both the school and club environment. The courses cover four main areas:

  • Coaching
  • Match Officiating
  • Festival Organisation
  • Leadership Skills

The skills that are learnt through the RLLA equip young people to be able to organise and run tag festivals in the local community.

Rugby League Leaders Award

The Rugby League Leaders Award Course is roughly 6 hours in length consisting of:

Introduction
Coaching Method
Practical Sessions
Match Officials
Festival Organisation

Age requirements: Year 11 plus (age 16 and over)

This is a Rugby League specific award similar in structure to the Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership

The young person, on completion of the course, will obtain a certificate produced by the Rugby Football League

Junior Rugby League Organisers Award

The Junior Rugby League Organisoers Award is 6 hours in length consisting of:

Introduction
Coaching Method
Practical Sessions
Match Officials
Festival Organisation (optional)

Age requirements Key Stage 4 Year 9 plus (age 14 and over)

This is a rugby league specific award similar in structure and designed to complement the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership

The young person, on completion of the course, will obtain a certificate produced by the Rugby Football League Coach Education Department

Taking It Further

On completion of the awards the young leaders are expected to participate in some sort of volunteering activity within the region. 

These awards are run free by RFL staff.
